Mars – Die Entdeckung des Roten Planeten

LIQUIFER’s Mars project, LAVA HIVE, is a visionary study of 3D-printed habitats for Mars. The aim is to construct dwellings from locally available lava using a casting process, with the ultimate goal of enabling the construction of a resource-efficient Mars base using locally available materials. Developed in cooperation with the ESA, the project won third prize in the 2015 NASA 3D-printed habitat challenge.

LAVA HIVE is currently on display at the Haus der Natur in Salzburg as part of the “MARS: The Discovery of the Red Planet”, which runs from November 2024 to October 2026.

The project showcases LIQUIFER’s interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of space architecture, exploration, and public science communication. It makes future scenarios for life on Mars more accessible to a wider audience.
